Beginnings

This is the start of the record of my continuing Botany IS at school. We began with apple seeds we're sprouting, so this will start out as a record of that experiment and likely be mostly that. Not right now, though. Later. Think I should show my instructor first and get his approval. It was, after all, his suggestion that I make a webpage for it.

The Basics

About the ISer:
I'm 16 years old and in the end of my Junior year, hoping to continue this little study of mine into the next school year. I have been in classes a year ahead of the rest of my grad class since freshman year, and though I miss them occasionally, I wouldn't have it any other way. Post-HS, I intend to attend MSU, where I will major in Nuclear Physics and minor in Botany.
I'm a huge nerd/science geek and proud to be refered to as such. Even if I didn't have the class, I'd probably do something like this anyway, so getting credit for it is a definite bonus.

About the IS:
IS stands for Independant Study, meaning it is just my instructor and I involved in the class. The idea arose from the fact that I will have run out of science classes to take my senior year, and am, well, a Botnerd. Plus, the school will have all sorts of resources to take advantage of in the new building that will be great for continuing our apple tree experiment.

About the Experiment:
It began with just a curiosity, 126 apple seeds, and a pair of nerds. I affectionately refer to the sprouts as my little applets, thus the blog title. We planted the seeds after a brief period of freezing, to simulate a Michigan winter, watering the heck out of them until they sprouted, then watering them a little less.
